On his 400th birthday, the National Museums in Berlin congratulate Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn with an exhibition trilogy: from 4 August to 5 November 2006 the Kulturforum Potsdamer Platz will be turned over entirely to Rembrandt's magnificent paintings, drawings and prints. With around 80 paintings from all over the world, the Gemäldegalerie - Old Master Paintings presents "Rembrandt. Quest of a Genius" - this year's biggest show in honour of the artist. A top-class selection of works from the Gemäldegalerie's collection and international loans gives a spectacular impression of the multi-faceted oeuvre of the great master, while simultaneously taking into account the latest findings of Rembrandt research. The Kupferstichkabinett - Museum of Prints and Drawings highlights the graphic aspect of Rembrandt's art. With the exhibitions "Rembrandt. The Draughtsman" and "Rembrandt. A Virtuoso of Prints" it presents world-famous Rembrandt drawings and a selection of important prints from its collection.

A catalogue will be published for each of the exhibitions. These well-researched, splendidly illustrated publications include essays by internationally renowned specialists. Highlight of the comprehensive events programme accompanying the exhibitions is a public conference with international Rembrandt specialists as speakers, to be held on 4 and 5 November 2006. The conference will investigate the up-to-date findings of the Rembrandt Research Project and take a critical look at the conclusions drawn in the exhibtion catalogues.
