This
section on the Indians of the Prairie and Plains ends with a horse harnessed
in the Crow style of around 1900. In addition, there are pictures of modern
powwows (dance festivals) and the Sun Dance, a religious ceremony which,
despite bans, has survived through to the present and has become an important
symbol of cultural independence.
