Medicines
are living beings, yet with unpredictable even uncanny powers. Most have
a specific name, yet these names do not relate to spirits nor are they
dependent upon spirits. On the opposite, medicines derive from God and
the ancestors, who are thanked in prayer for having created medicines
and entreated to maintain their effectiveness.
