The
exhibition is subdivided according to regions: West Africa is represented
by both artistic achievements of rural societies and the urban and royal
art from Ife and Benin. They are followed by objects from the Cameroon
Grasslands and Gabon, which in turn lead the visitor to central Africa,
with ancestor- and power figures as well as utilitarian objects of the
Kongo, Luba and other groups. The exhibition concludes with works from
East Africa: sculptures and masks that have gained increasing attention
in recent years.
